Our Vision

We see ourselves as a true community coffeehouse, a gathering place for people of all ages and walks of life, an active partner making an investment of time, energy, and money to improve the community that sustains us.

The Java Shack prides itself in being more than a place to get a good cup of Java (coffee), we have the friendliest staff in town and are proud to serve you and get to know you.

The Arlington Courier Newspaper dubbed the Java Shack "Cheers Coffeehouse" of Arlington in April 1997. We earned this honor because we take the time to get to know our customer's names, drinks and sometimes their lives.

So when you stop in, be sure to introduce yourself and let us get to know you or if you prefer to maintain your privacy, we will be happy to provide you a place to come and be in peace and quiet (just ask Marlena)!

How it all started

It was late in the evening on January 1. 1996 when the actual plans for The Java Shack were first put to fruition. A plan to actually put the dream into reality was discussed with Dale and his close friend (Debbie), with a site in mind and the ideas flowing like the waters of the Potomac it was time to get things moving.

Dale was able to secure the lease in late February, after several large snowstorms delayed numerous meetings with the landlord. Work progressed at a feverish rate through the month of March and by April 12th the doors swung open for the first day of business. It was more than anyone could have anticipated and the days, weeks, months and years to follow showed that "the dream" was more than fulfilled.

Through the dedication of friends, family and most of all the best employees/team members one could ask for The Java Shack continues to thrive in an ever increasingly competitive market. Many people ask, "What makes The Java Shack" successful and such a magnet for people of all walks of life to gather? Once again it is attributed to the employees, the product and the environment that we create to make everyone feel at home. Community spirit thrives at The Java Shack and will always be the core to our business.
